News and Events Tools: (Including Syndication using RSS)
Faculty
Database System (FDS)
A database designed to
offer user maintained, web accessible updating of faculty,
staff and graduate student information including CVs, research
projects, course offerings and more. FDS is also used as a form for
simple maintenance of news listings on departmental web sites.
The information in FDS can be published or displayed in any format. For example, data may be selectively displayed as
- A curriculum vitae, which may be viewed as a web page or downloaded as a PDF document
- Web pages for individual faculty members
- A departmental directory
- A list of departmental course offerings
- A syndicated news feature with RSS output
- A list of departmental publications and/or research interests
- A statement to the chair for annual review purposes
- A means to manage departmental email lists, and make them easily accessible to department members
Calendaring
University Calendar and MCal
Events
listings for lectures, conferences, exhibits, parties and shindigs. We have two options for calendaring that we
currently implement for our development projects. Mcal (math -cal-endar) is another Dr. Yu product that allows us to
categorize event types. It is highly flexible, has an RSS output but has some syching issues with the University Calendar.
The University Calendar is another tool that recent enhancements have provided categorization as well as archiving.
