Interventions for Eligible Students
Requests for academic intervention must be approved through the Academic Resource Center in accordance with our Procedures for Requesting Academic Interventions. If you have questions regarding interventions, please contact Dr. John Blackshear, Clinical Director, at the Academic Resource Center (919) 684-5917.
It make take up to one week for intervention requests and documentation to be reviewed and processed. Students are expected to make ALL submissions at least two weeks before exams so interventions can be properly arranged. Students are also expected to meet with their professors upon notification to discuss implementation of their interventions.
Academic interventions are determined on an individual basis according to the nature of the disability and the academic environment.
Academic interventions include, but are not limited to the following:
Testing Interventions
- Extended time (generally time and one half)
- Minimal distraction area for examinations
Classroom Interventions
- Note-takers
- Tape recorder
Classroom Support
- Books and materials in an alternative format
- Peer note taker
- Use of laptop computer
