The Goldman Sachs Foundation

The Goldman Sachs Foundation supports three annual awards through the Trinity College Deans' Summer Research Fellowship program with the specific objective to increase opportunities for underrepresented minorities and women in the natural sciences and in economics. Specifically, Goldman Sachs Fellowships may be awarded to women who propose faculty-mentored research projects in economics or in any of the physical and quantitative sciences (chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics), and to underrepresented minority students in these same areas as well as the life sciences.

Goldman Sachs makes these fellowships available to Duke students to help diversify the summer undergraduate research population in economics and in the natural and quantitative sciences. A second goal in offering funding from Goldman Sachs is to increase the number of students in the target populations who graduate with distinction in their majors and/or whose research is likely to result in an invitation to a regional or national professional meeting to report on their research.

Three Goldman Sachs Research Fellowships of $2500 will be given annually (2006-2010). Priority for funding will be students whose summer projects have a high probability of being continued as senior distinction projects. Fellowship support will be provided for reasonable expenses associated with the project period including living expenses, supplies, small equipment and travel to field sites or a professional meeting. The Undergraduate Research Support (URS) Office in Trinity College of Arts and Sciences will administer the Goldman Sachs Fellowships in parallel with the Deans' Summer Research Fellowship Program.
