DUKE IN OXFORD

Organized by Oxford’s Department of Continuing Education in conjunction with Trinity College of Arts and Sciences of Duke University, this distinguished and challenging academic program offers students the opportunity to study modern British culture at England's oldest university. A tangle of 41 colleges and halls, the university lies in the center of the city, with bustling shops, markets, quiet gardens, theaters and pubs surrounding the colleges. The program is housed in New College, one of the most famous of the colleges, which was founded in 1379.

The program utilizes the tutorial method, the central feature of an Oxford education. Tutors are experienced Oxford faculty who have taught in the Duke program for many years, and are adept in introducing students to this unique approach to learning. Students attend seminar meetings and the central part of their work lies in small intimate meetings with their tutor. Students have access to the Bodleian Library, a most distinguished library in which to compose the one paper required per week. Participating students will be designated as Lord Rothermere Scholars, which will be noted on their Duke transcript. Five guest lectures will be given by academic staff of the University of Oxford and by experts from outside the University. Participants may meet the speaker at the reception before the Guest Night Dinner; students will be invited to join the school staff, the guest lecturer and other guests at High Table.
