ACADEMICS

Duke in Florence focuses on Italy in general, and the city of Florence specifically. Courses in Italian language, art history, and literature are offered every term, with the rest of the curriculum complementing these core subjects. Past offerings have included courses in: music, political science, history, studio art, architecture, philosophy, cinema, and physics.

Along with regular classroom lectures, course instruction will include site visits in and around Florence (including the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo, the Bargello, and the Laurentian Library) as well as day-long trips to such cities as Pisa and Siena. There are also two weekend excursions for all program participants to more distant places, such as Rome and Venice.

Students attending the Florence program during the fall semester will receive Duke credit and grades on their transcripts just as if they were on campus. Course information for each semester will be added as it develops.
