Bulletin Course Description
Second semester of introductory calculus with a laboratory component. Emphasis on laboratory projects, group work, and written reports. Methods of integration, applications of integrals, functions defined by integration, improper integrals, introduction to probability and distributions, infinite series, Taylor polynomials, series solutions of differential equations, systems of differential equations, Fourier series. Not open to students who have had Mathematics 32 or 41. Instructor: Staff

Synopsis of course content
Topics include the following: methods of integration, applications of integrals, functions defined by integration, improper integrals, introduction to probability and distributions, infinite series, Taylor polynomials, series solutions of differential equations, systems of differential equations, Fourier series.
Textbooks
Calculus by Deborah Hughes-Hallett, Andrew M. Gleason, et al., fifth edition; and a Lab Manual which will be available in the University Textbook Store.



Assignments
Assignments include daily homework, and weekly lab reports or quizzes.



Exams
There will be approximately three major tests, and a Departmental final examination. There will also be one integration skills test which students must pass to pass the course. Some teachers may give quizzes on some labs.



Grade to be based on
Lab reports and quizzes, in-class tests, and a departmental final exam. A skills test, which otherwise does not affect the grade, must be passed in order to pass the course.



Additional Information
A fundamental component of this course is the weekly calculator lab. Students work in teams to explore the concepts of calculus in the context of real-world problems.
