Synopsis of course content
This course addresses selected current issues in policy related to K-12 education in the United States, with some attention to education policy in other countries. It is designed for students who have a background in policy analysis, with exposure to economics and statistics. No prior background in education policy is required, but strong interest in schools and education policy is desirable.

Helen F. Ladd and Edward B. Fiske (eds), Handbook of Research in Education Finance and Policy.
Assignments
A combination of individual assignments and group projects, including a culminating group research project
Exams
There will be a final exam, part of which will be in class and part of which will be take home. There is no midterm exam.

See reference above to the final group project.
Grade to be based on
All assignments and group projects, the final exam, and class participation.
Additional Information
This course requires permission of the instructor. All interested public policy graduate students will be admitted and as many undergraduates as there is room for (given the maximum course size of 18 students).
