Synopsis of course content
This course will consider the intersection of political philosophy and religion. Readings will be drawn from the Old and New Testament, Augustine, Aquinas, Dante, Ockham, Petrarch, Luther, Calvin, Montaigne, Machiavelli, More,Erasmus, Bacon, and Descartes.
Assignments
About 100 pages of reading per week from primary sources. Recommended secondary sources. Each student will be responsible for introducing the material in one class.
Exams
Final for Undergrads
Term Papers
10-15 page paper for undergrads.
10-15 page paper for grad students if completed by the end of reading period. If turned in later it must be a 25-30 page paper.
Grade to be based on
For undergrads: paper is 40%, exam 35%, participation 25%.
For graduate students: paper is 75%, participation 25%
