Synopsis of course content
Skills associated with jazz improvisation are developed through study of chord/scale relationships, standard jazz repertoire, appropriate exercises, ear training and assigned listening. Students will transcribe, analyze and compose solos. Class meets once a week for 2.5 hours. Students will perform in class. Graded on effort and improvement. Prerequisite: must play all 12 major scales on instrument and have a basic awareness of jazz styles. Prior jazz performing experience is not required.
