Synopsis of course content
The purpose of this course is twofold: to increase students' awareness of German culture and to further develop students' abilities in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. Systematic work on
vocabulary, sentence structure, and patterns of expression at the advanced level will be included.
The course examine major cultural issues of postwar Germany including the Wirtschaftswunder, the 70s protest movement, and East German identity. Selected texts and authentic materials taken from a wide array of media (literature, film, news, TV, radio) will provide a basis for discussions and essays.
This course is required of all students majoring in German, but non-majors are also welcome!
