The Right, the Left, and the Decolonial
Once upon a time, it looked as if the Left had the key to the future. It was not clear at that time that the future in question was becoming global and not national. However, it was the right, under the logos of globalization and neoliberalism, that showed all of us the way. Those routes are apparently closed: the fall of Berlin Wall filled the street with debris and the fall of Wall Street filled the globe with toxic assets. What was wrong in these races (like in car races) that started in the Enlightenment, one taking a right turn and the other the left? What happened is that both right and left were driving upon the imperial designs they inherited from Christianity, Catholic and Protestant, but also Orthodox in Slavic Russia and the Soviet Union. Sure, secularism chastised religion, but it built its discourse upon Christian imperial foundations.
Now what? Well apparently it is the turn of the de-colonial, of all those people in the world that were on the other side of the fence, in Africa, Asia, America, Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Middle East and that there are now in Europe and US as immigrant, some legal some not, who began to speak and participate. And they do not speak the language of the right or the left. They speak TO the right and the left.
This seminar intends to understand the shift from the right and the left to the decolonial.
