Synopsis of course content
This course is designed to give students a comprehensive overview of the evolution of jazz performance practices from its beginnings to the present day. During the course of the semester students will study written and recorded material and will be evaluated through exams and papers. The course is structured around differences in stylistic periods, artists and the progressive development that defines today's jazz.
Assignments
Students are expected to complete two papers, take two exams attend 10 performances and take a final exam.
Exams
Two exams and a final will be administered.
Term Papers
Two papers will be completed.
Grade to be based on
Assignments and attendance.
