Synopsis of course content
You will acquire a basic knowledge of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), which you will use to transcribe English and Italian texts according to rules for proper diction in those languages. The acquisition and implementation of IPA for transcriptions comprises the theoretical aspect of the course. On the practical side, you will be required to perform songs with good diction in both English and Italian.

Assignments
Assignments will be posted on Blackboard, and include reading and learning the text, completing transcriptions, learning songs or song texts for performance in class, and listening to great singers sing in English and Italian.
Exams
For each language (English and Italian) there will be a quiz on rules of pronunciation, a written exam transcribing a poem into IPA, and a singing exam to demonstrate your pronunciation skills.
