Rudiments of music theory, including meter, major-minor tonality, chordal
vocabulary. Introduction to harmony, four-part chorale writing. Prerequisite:
some previous exposure to music theory through playing or singing;
familiarity with elementary concepts, e.g. key signatures, scales, clefs.
(Students without playing or singing experience, see Music 55B.) Students
who have previously taken Music 55B may not register for 55A.
