The Duke University Chapel Choir, numbering 150 singers, provides musical
leadership in the weekly Sunday morning services during the academic year
and sings two yearly concerts with professional orchestra. The Chapel Choir
performs Handel's Messiah each December, while the spring oratorios have
included major works by such composers as Bach, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and
Duruflé. The Sunday repertory ranges across the choral spectrum, from
classical to gospel style, from the 16th century to the present. The Choir has
released two CD recordings: one of Handel's Messiah and one (on a
commercial label) of the Rutter Requiem and Vierne's Mass for Choir and Two
Organs.
For the audition, singers should bring a prepared piece (a solo, a choral
selection, or something less complicated, like a hymn or a folksong), and
should be prepared to sight-read.
Chapel Choir members may also wish to be considered for the Schola
Cantorum or the Choral Vespers Ensemble, smaller groups both of which
rehearse and perform separately. |
