Synopsis of course content
Techniques for attacking and solving challenging mathematics problems and writing mathematical proofs.
Although a time has been listed for this course, the actual time and place for the weekly sessions will not be
set until the first week of the fall term.
Permission numbers will not be given until that time.

Course may be repeated.
Assignments
Students will write up rigorous solutions to challenging problems each week.
Students will be expected to actively participate in the
ARML style Duke Math Meet for high school students. The
date for the Meet will be selected by September.
Exams
The Virginia Tech Math Contest, usually held from 9 to 11:30
on a Saturday in late October or November, will serve as the
midterm.
The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, given from 10 until 6 on the first Saturday in December will serve as the Final Exam.
Grade to be based on
Number of correct solutions submitted.
Additional Information
The seminar will meet one evening a week at a time to be arranged at the start of the fall term.
