Bulletin Course Description
The impact of World War I on German morale, the emergence of an exciting avant garde culture in Berlin, the establishment of a multiparty parliamentary government, women's emancipation, and economic crisis in the hyperinflation of 1922 and the Great Depression. Against this progressive background, Hitler's mobilization of masses of followers, seizure of power, and establishment of the first racial society. Synopsis of course content
This course centers on the history of political turbulence, cultural innovation after World War I, economic crisis during the Great Depression, the Nazi quest for racial purity, police terror, foreign aggression, and mass death.
Assignments
Short written assignments will provide experience in writing quick response essays, comparative reviews, library sleuth assignments, position papers, and film reviews. At three points in the semester students will post questions on the Blackboard.

Written work 80%, discussion (including Blackboard questions).
Additional Information
This will be a large class, but all students will be expected to meet with either the professor or TA at least once during the semester.
