Title READINGS IN GREEK LIT Department GREEK Course Number 2009 Fall 201 Section Number 01 Primary Instructor Gonzalez,Jose M. Prerequisites
Synopsis of course content
The goals of this course are to help you:
1. improve the facility and speed with which you read Greek prose and poetry
2. read the Greek Reading List
3. develop your understanding of texts as cultural artifacts within given social, political, economic, and literary matrices
4. familiarize you with aspects of Greek literary history (periodization, social occasion, generic conventions, intertextuality, etc.)
You will be expected to read the equivalent of 17 OCT pages of Greek per session. In class you will be asked to construe the Greek from a clean copy of the text. You are welcome to use whatever method of preparation best suits you. But during class you may not rely on annotated texts, vocabulary lists, or written-out translations. We will only be able to review a fraction of the assigned reading. Be ready to ask questions about the rest. Exams will cover all assigned material.
