Research-based teaching practices in elementary mathematics and science for culturally diverse populations. Emphasis on the influence of science, mathematics, and technology in social issues and shaping teacher decision making about teaching and learning. Readings and field experience on ethical teaching practices, role of teachers and schools in society, and impact of teacher affect on environment and student learning. Consent of instructor required. Synopsis of course content
Students enrolled in Education 107S will critically examine the research, theories, and practices of elementary school math and science instruction for culturally and academically diverse populations in grades kindergarten through six. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of the teacher in shaping decisions about curriculum, instruction, and evaulation. Field experiences will provide students opportunities for applying research-based methodologies in the public school classroom.
Assignments
Reading assignments from articles, books, and the text are made weekly.

Weekly field experience required; a total of 4 hours per week, in conjunction with 108S.
