Bulletin Course Description
Field-based course examining color photography as a documentary tool. Students learn about aesthetic and technical foundations of color photography using recent digital technology. Class-conducted intensive examination of the work of historic and contemporary color documentary photographers. Advanced techniques in film scanning, Photoshop, and color pigment printing using Arts Warehouse multimedia classroom. Completion of semester-long color photographic project, and final project consisting of production of a series of color pigment prints. Consent of instructor required. Instructor: Harris

Synopsis of course content
A field-based course about color photography as a documentary tool.
Students will gain knowledge about the aesthetic and technical foundations of
color photography by using recent digital technology. The class will also
conduct an intensive examination of the work of historic and contemporary
color documentary photographers. Utilizing the new Arts Warehouse
multimedia classroom, students will learn advanced techniques in film
scanning, Photoshop CS4, and color pigment printing. Students will be
required to complete a semester-long color photographic project and to
produce a series of color pigment prints as a final project. Consent of
instructor required.
Assignments
Weekly progress on documentary photographic project chosen by student at the
beginning of the semester. Students are required to show work in class at a
minimum of every other week and to become an expert color printer using new
technology available in lab.
Grade to be based on
Class attendance and participation are non-negotiable and critical to a
positive evaluation. Students expected to come to every class and to come
class on time. There will be a scheduled mid-term individual meeting with
each student to discuss your projects. Grade determined by improvement in
ongoing documentary work over the semester, quality of final project, and
class participation.
Additional Information
A final series of twenty exhibition quality color inkjet prints is required at the
end of the semester.
