Synopsis of course content
This course is an introduction to American national government and politics.
It will focus on the institutional structure of the American
national government, the goals and strategies of the political actors who
operate withinthe system, and the contexts that affect political action. The
institutionalanalysis will consider the effects of the original constitutional
structureand of developments since. Our consideration will particularly
emphasizethe relationship between the preferences of the general public and
thedecisions of government actors.
Assignments
Probably two books: a text, a collection of readings, plus additional articles on
e-reserve.



Exams
A mid-term and a final.

Grade to be based on
Discussion section quizzes and participation 25 percent; midterm 25 percent;
final 50 percent.
