Synopsis of course content
The evolution of organismal diversity can be viewed as a series of important events through time. Defining moments include the evolution of photosynthesis, eukaryotic life, sexual recombination, variation in life-history, and multicellularity. Examples from the five kingdoms considered in a phylogenetic context. Historical relationships among organisms discussed using evidence from morphology, gene sequences, and biogeography. Laboratory includes inventory of organismal diversity and practical exercises to study historical relationships.
