Synopsis of course content
The course provides an introduction to and training in social research methods. The student is expected to learn the logic of research, the basic processes of social research and some fundamental skills in data collection and analysis. Among the methods covered will be surveys, sampling, fieldwork, comparative-historical methods, interviewing, and experiments. We will also cover some topics in the philosophy of social science and the politics and ethics of research.
