Synopsis of course content
Evolution of the Chinese economy since 1949. Exposition of alternative economic systems, the commune, incentive problems and state enterprises. Analysis of recent reforms and their effects on economic efficiency: agricultural growth, changes in ownership structures, financial markets, reforms & inflation, privatization, gradualism and shock treatment. Through a research project, students develop expertise in one aspect of the Chinese economy.
