Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program
To become a Goldman Sachs Global Leader, eligible students at Duke must receive nomination by this institution. Once nominated, students submit a formal application by a deadline in early February. Panels will review all applications and select the final 16 US student winners who will join 134 successful applicants from other countries around the world to constitute the year’s 150 Goldman Sachs Global Leaders.
Eligibility Requirements
Duke University is able to nominate a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 candidates who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below. The Campus Liaison will submit nomination forms on behalf of each nominated student. Nominees are selected through a campus nomination process outlined below. Eligible candidates at Duke must:
- have distinguished themselves as leaders in their community or school;
- have high academic standing as demonstrated by grades received in the final year of secondary school and first year in college or university. Eligible candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.4/4.0 or equivalent, or be in the top 10% of their graduating class;
- be full-time students in their second year at Trinity College or the Pratt School of Engineering;
- be pursuing their first undergraduate degree (all majors accepted); and
- demonstrate competency in spoken and written English.
Campus Nomination Procedures
Students seeking nomination to the GSGLP, must submit a preliminary application to the Campus Liaison by the October 12, 2007 deadline. The application should include:
- a résumé;
- a copy of the student’s Advisement Report (available through ACES);
- an summary of the student’s principal leadership experiences with a description of the student's contribution to the success of each venture.
- a 2-4 page (double-spaced) essay on:
- the student’s leadership philosophy and/or lessons s/he has learned from leadership experiences;
- interests and experiences that go beyond the US or that evince a concern for international/global issues;
- ability to work with and through others with diverse backgrounds; and
- career and/or leadership plans for the future.
APPLICATIONS MAY BE SUBMITTED AS AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT OR HAND DELIVERED TO 011 ALLEN BUILDING.
Preliminary applications will be reviewed by an ad-hoc committee established for that purpose. The Committee will select 10-12 students for interviews, and following the interviews, will select 5-8 candidates who will be put forward as Duke’s nominees to the GSGLP.
