Luce Scholarships
Each year, through the Henry Luce Foundation, 15 potential American leaders who are not and do not plan to become Asian or international relations specialists spend twelve months working and traveling in East Asia. Duke University is one of only 68 American institutions selected by the Luce Foundation to compete in this scholarship program by nominating its students or recent graduates for consideration by the Foundation. Applicants must not have reached their 29th birthday by September 1 of the application year. The principal basis for selection will be "high potential for accomplishment in fields unrelated to Asian specialties" upon return to the United States
THE SCHOLARSHIP:
"In spite of its name, the Luce Scholars Program is experiential rather than academic in nature. At the heart of the scholarship year are the internships that are arranged for each scholar on the basis of his or her specific interest, background, qualifications, and experience." Candidates are not expected to plan a program when applying for the scholarship.
NOMINATION:
This year Duke may nominate three current or past students who meet eligibility requirements. Applicants seeking the University's nomination must submit by the campus deadline a preliminary application to:
