  1. How do I see the available lists?

    • Go to the A&S Public Mailing Lists to view current public lists.
    • Click the name of the list you wish to access.
    • To access an unadvertised private list, you must go directly to its url, which is constructed as follows (replace red text with the name of your list):
      https://trinity.aas.duke.edu/mailman/listinfo/yourlistname

  2. How do I subscribe to a list?

    • Select the list you want to join.
    • In the subscription section, type your e-mail address and then select and confirm a password. DO NOT use your NetID password or other sensitive password: your list password will be sent via email and otherwise treated insecurely.
    • At "Would you like to receive list mail batched in a daily digest?" select "Yes" or "No"
    • Click the subscribe button to add yourself to the list.
    • In some cases the Mailman list administrator will return an e-mail message requesting confirmation of your subscription request. Just follow the instructions in the email (normally a simple reply is all that is needed).
    • In some cases the lists have restricted access (a "Closed" list) and the list administrator will determine if you are allowed to subscribe or not.
    • After successfully confirming your subscription, Mailman will send you a welcome note.
    • The note will include the following important information:
      1. The URL that takes you directly to the list's information page.
      2. The URL that takes you directly to your personal settings page.
      3. Your password.

  8. What is a digest?
    • Some mail lists produce many messages each day, through out the day. As each new message appears as a new email message, a high volume can cause substantial interruptions over the course of the day. A digest resolves this problem by bundling of all the day's messages into a single email, which Mailman sends at a specific time every day.

  9. How do I view old postings (archives)?
    • From the list you have selected, click "visit the [listname] Archives"
    • Select the date and proper archive view to read the past posts.
    • You may also download the archives from this location
    • (Note: some lists have restricted archives: you will need to be a member of the list and use your list password to access them)
